Motorola is continuing its attack on Samsung in the foldable smartphone market with the Razr Fold. The smartphone will soon be coming to Europe with a suggested retail price of 1,999 euros.

Motorola took its first steps into foldable smartphones with the Razr product line. The Razr models are foldable ‘clamshell phones’ designed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip. Now, Motorola is also launching an attack on the Galaxy Z Fold with the brand-new Razr Fold, launched during MWC 2026.

The Razr Fold is the first ‘book-style’ smartphone launched by Motorola. The device can unfold to eight inches. The design of the Razr Fold is undeniably based on its Samsung counterpart.

At first glance, the Motorola Razr Fold looks like an ordinary 6.8-inch smartphone. But just like Samsung’s Fold, a mini-tablet is hidden behind the cover screen. Unfolded, the Razr Fold offers eight inches of screen space with 2K image quality. The inner screen is also designed to guarantee high readability in direct sunlight.

Motorola emphasizes the slimness of the design. Folded, the smartphone is only 8.99 mm thick, and unfolded as a tablet, it is just 4.4 mm. Slim can also be sturdy: the Razr Fold will be the first commercial device armored with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. There is an additional film around it to absorb shocks. The Razr Fold is claimed by Motorola to be up to 75 percent better protected against drop damage.

Battery and camera

The first generations of foldable smartphones experienced their share of growing pains when it comes to battery life. Motorola wants to avoid those issues with the Razr Fold. The manufacturer is packing a substantial 6,000 mAh battery into the device. Furthermore, the Razr Fold is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and 16 GB of RAM.

The camera island features a 50 MP trio. The 50 MP main camera is equipped with a Sony Lytia 828 sensor that lets in plenty of light. Video recording is possible at 8K resolution. The 50 MP telephoto camera offers up to 3x optical zoom and up to 100x AI-driven zoom. The wide-angle camera has a 122° viewing angle but can also handle macro effects at a distance of up to 3.5 mm.

Price and availability

Motorola is showing the Razr Fold to the world for the first time at the MWC trade fair in Barcelona. The manufacturer has not yet confirmed which markets the device will reach, but a launch in Europe is planned for ‘the coming months’. Better start saving now, as the suggested retail price is a hefty 1,999 euros. With this, Motorola remains tactically below the price of competitor Samsung.
