The notorious hacker group ShinyHunters is behind the cyberattack on the Dutch telecom provider Odido. The group is now demanding ransom, otherwise they will release the data publicly.

The Dutch telecom provider Odido was recently hit by a cyberattack. The hacker group ShinyHunters has now confirmed to RTL Nieuws that they are behind the hack. Meanwhile, Odido is being pressured on the dark web to pay a ransom. It reportedly involves a ‘low amount’ of at least seven figures. The hackers are threatening to post the data on the dark web.

Ransom

The hacker group ShinyHunters claims to possess Odido customer data such as IBANs, passport numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Furthermore, they have also managed to obtain customer passwords, something Odido itself currently denies. RTL Nieuws states that this is partially correct based on its own investigation. It reportedly concerns passwords that customers had agreed upon with Odido over the phone.

The group is now demanding a ransom from Odido, otherwise they will put all the data online on the dark web. The amount is said to be at least seven figures.

‘Odido is lying’

Odido initially spoke of 6.2 million affected customers. According to ShinyHunters, however, more data was stolen. The cybercriminals informed RTL Nieuws that “Odido is lying.” They claim it actually involves eight million customers and a total of 21 million lines of data.

“Make the right decision, you know where to find us,” the group told Odido. The deadline for the company is this coming Thursday morning. The hacker group ShinyHunters is no stranger to such activities; for instance, the group made off with stolen data from Salesforce last year.
