Synology Launches Compact DS225+ NAS for Small Teams and Offices

The DS225+ offers up to 40 TB storage capacity and supports 2.5GbE networks, aimed at home use and small workplaces.

Synology has introduced the DS225+, a compact NAS with two drive bays. The system is designed for small teams, home use, and branch offices that need a local storage solution with synchronization to central IT environments.

The DS225+ supports a maximum raw storage capacity of 40 TB via two 20 TB drives. For network connectivity, the device features a 2.5GbE port and a 1GbE RJ-45 connection. The NAS runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM), Synology’s proprietary operating system.

Synchronization and Backup

With Synology Drive, the DS225+ transforms into a private cloud solution. It enables file access from various devices and locations. Synchronization between multiple sites is also possible.

For backups, the system supports Active Backup Suite. This allows users to back up Windows, Linux, and macOS devices, as well as virtual machines and cloud accounts. The backup can also be stored off-site for extra redundancy.

Additionally, Surveillance Station is available for users who want to use the device for video surveillance. The application supports scalable camera management and analysis tools for security purposes.

Compatibility and Availability

To ensure reliability, the system requires compatible hard drives that have been tested according to Synology’s drive compatibility framework. Other brands can confirm compatibility through a separate validation program.

The DS225+ is available worldwide through Synology’s network of resellers and partners.
