Synology launches Deep Search, allowing BeeDrive users to find files or images faster using AI.

Synology introduces Deep Search, an AI-powered search function for BeeDrive, its portable SSD for personal backup. The tool aims to help users search through large collections of documents and photos faster, without sending data to the cloud. Additionally, BeeDrive will include a license for Acronis True Image Essentials.

Local AI Search Function

Deep Search is available as a free software update for BeeDrive users on Windows and macOS. The search engine analyzes files locally on the computer. According to Synology, file content is not sent to Synology servers or other cloud services.

The tool helps you find photos and documents. For images, users can search for text within the image, for example, receipts or screenshots containing specific words. Searching can also be done with a natural language description, such as “children in the snow,” or with time and location filters based on context in the metadata.

For documents, Deep Search searches both the full text and embedded images, such as screenshots, graphs, and scanned pages. The search technology uses semantic analysis, allowing users to type sentences describing the content instead of exact keywords. The interface shows a direct preview and jumps to the relevant slide, paragraph, or section.

On Mac, Deep Search requires at least macOS 15, an Apple Silicon chip (M1 or newer), and 16 GB RAM. On Windows, an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor is the minimum, supplemented with an Nvidia GPU with 6 GB VRAM and 16 GB RAM. Support for Copilot+ PCs will follow later.

Acronis Partnership

Synology links the introduction of Deep Search with a new partnership with Acronis. Each BeeDrive now includes a three-year license for Acronis True Image Essentials for one computer, in selected regions.
