Faster than Light: Red Hat Introduces AI Assistant in Developer Hub

Red Hat adds Developer Lightspeed to its Developer Hub: a collection of AI tools integrated into existing developer tools.

Red Hat jumps on the AI coding bandwagon. It announces Developer Lightspeed: an AI assistant that integrates directly into Red Hat’s development environment. The solution supports both coding and non-coding tasks and is designed to make application modernization more efficient.

Coding at Light Speed

Red Hat Developer Lightspeed is available in the Developer Hub. The AI assistant provides support for tasks such as documentation, test planning, and troubleshooting via a chat interface. Developers can work with their own language model thanks to a bring your own model approach, offering flexibility in terms of performance, cost, and privacy. Red Hat thus positions itself as model-agnostic.

In the Migration Toolkit for Applications (MTA), Developer Lightspeed offers contextual help in rewriting source code. The assistant recognizes migration issues in the IDE and suggests targeted solutions. The AI learns as more migrations are performed, increasing the quality of suggestions. This should help companies modernize applications faster towards cloud-native environments.

From Analysis to Execution Faster

Red Hat couples the AI functions with the release of MTA 8. This new version supports, among other things, the transition from Cloud Foundry to Red Hat OpenShift. The tool automates repetitive tasks and reduces manual work by, for example, automatically generating configuration files for deployment.

By adding Developer Lightspeed to the existing toolchain, developers can move from analysis to execution faster. Red Hat aims at organizations that want to modernize their legacy applications with less error-prone work and higher productivity.

The AI assistant in Developer Hub is currently available as a preview. The version for MTA is generally available for customers with a Red Hat Advanced Developer Suite subscription.
