Microsoft believes that too few Windows 10 users have switched to Windows 11, and the tech giant wants to encourage this transition.
With only a year and a half left until the end of support for Windows 10, Microsoft is increasing pressure to get users to switch to Windows 11 more quickly. The company is increasingly pointing out the benefits of the new operating system in blogs and advertisements.
End of Support for Windows 10 Approaches
On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will definitively stop security updates and technical support for Windows 10. Systems still running on this older operating system will become more vulnerable to security issues. Although users with a compatible PC can upgrade to Windows 11 for free, Microsoft says this transition remains too slow.
To make the switch more attractive, Microsoft provides several reasons to upgrade, such as productivity features exclusive to Windows 11. These include Snap Layouts for efficiently using multiple windows side by side, Focus sessions for concentrated work. Widgets, the renewed Start menu, and support for facial or fingerprint recognition via Windows Hello are also meant to entice users to Windows 11.
Windows 11 Aims for Comfort and Overview
In addition to functional improvements, Windows 11 also offers visual adjustments such as an improved dark mode that is easier on the eyes in low-light environments. Users can personalize the system and more easily switch between work, personal, and leisure activities via virtual desktops.
Microsoft advises not to wait until the last moment and to plan the transition in a timely manner, especially considering future security risks.
