Microsoft focuses on PC recovery with these new tools, announced at Ignite 2025.
Microsoft unveiled two new recovery options for Windows 11 at Ignite 2025, aimed at faster, safer, and more reliable PC recovery processes.
Point-in-Time Restore
The most notable innovation is Point-in-Time Restore (PITR), a feature that at first glance resembles the classic System Restore. The difference lies in how it works: PITR not only saves system settings but can also preserve and restore local files and apps. This makes it possible to truly restore a PC to an earlier state without losing documents or applications. This will be particularly useful for IT departments.
Cloud Rebuild and Quick Machine Recovery
Additionally, Microsoft introduces Cloud Rebuild, a way to completely reinstall Windows 11 via the cloud. The PC downloads a fresh, reliable Windows installation without requiring manual media.
Microsoft is also testing a new version of Quick Machine Recovery, which allows administrators to remotely restart and restore devices.
Both tools are part of Microsoft Intune and will be rolled out in the first half of 2026.
