Microsoft reverses its earlier decision to impose limits on outgoing bulk emails in Exchange Online.
In 2024, Microsoft announced its plans to set limits in 2026 on the number of emails that can be sent via Exchange Online. The mail limit for bulk-sent emails is intended to prevent abuse. This limit amounts to 2,000 external recipients per day. The regular limit, which also applies to internal emails, remained at 10,000. Now Microsoft is retracting this announcement. The company says it is taking customer feedback into account.
Limits scrapped
“Customers have shared that this limit presents significant operational challenges, especially given the limited bulk sending capabilities available today,” the company said in an announcement. Taking customer opinions into account, Microsoft is now scrapping the planned limits for bulk emails.

Microsoft emphasizes that it is still committed to preventing abuse of Exchange Online customers. “However, we plan to address these issues in ways that are less disruptive to your business workflows,” Microsoft said.
