Starting February 13, the GPT-4 model and related models will be disabled in ChatGPT. GPT-5.2 is the current standard model.
OpenAI is cleaning up the number of available models in ChatGPT. From February 13, GPT-4 will disappear. This also applies to GPT‑4o, GPT‑4.1, GPT‑4.1 mini, and OpenAI o4-mini. The models will remain available as an API for the time being.
Retiring
Actually, the GPT-4 model and related models were supposed to be retired in August last year after the launch of GPT-5. But because the ‘drier’ personality of GPT-5 wasn’t immediately popular, OpenAI temporarily brought back GPT-4. You can find it in the model selection window under ‘older models’.

GPT-5.1 and GPT-5.2 followed GPT-5, with more options to customize the personality as desired. According to OpenAI, only 0.1 percent of ChatGPT users still use GPT-4, so the time is ripe to phase out the models. Most now opt for the current standard model GPT-5.2. The original GPT-5 model can also retire.
Talking to adults
OpenAI says it continues to tweak the conversational style of its models and the quality of the answers. Future updates should provide more personality and creativity, as well as address unnecessary refusals or excessive caution.
In the coming weeks, it will roll out a feature to determine the age of users and adjust the built-in security accordingly. ChatGPT should treat adults as adults and minors as minors, it says.
New investments
According to sources from The Information, OpenAI can expect another check. Loyal partners Microsoft and Nvidia are again willing to open their wallets, and Amazon would also like to invest: good for a total of 60 billion dollars. Amazon is the most remarkable name, given that the company also has close ties with OpenAI competitor Anthropic.
Amazon’s investment could still depend on the value of the cloud contract that OpenAI signs up for. Both companies announced a strategic collaboration at the end of last year. OpenAI can use the external funding well, because ChatGPT has not yet proven profitable.
