Google Introduces New App Allowing Users to Run AI Models Locally on Their Device

Last week, Google launched an experimental application that allows users to run generative AI models on their device. The Google AI Edge Gallery is already available for Android users, iOS devices will “soon” have access. The app offers the ability to find, download, and run compatible models. The experimental app is now available via GitHub.

Offline models

Google shares a new way to run AI models locally on your phone. With the Google AI Edge Gallery, you can download and run AI models from your device. In the app, you can search for an AI that generates images, answers questions, or writes code.

Because the models run offline, no internet connection is needed once the model is loaded. Moreover, this means that your personal data is not immediately sent to the cloud, but your information remains on your own device. Furthermore, the models utilize the processors of supported devices.

The AI Edge Gallery app is available under an Apache license, allowing it to be used for both private and commercial purposes. Users can download the Google AI Edge Gallery from GitHub via instructions.
