ChatGPT gets new connectors for Google Drive, Dropbox, and SharePoint

Paid ChatGPT users gain access to new connectors in the chatbot, including Google Drive, Dropbox, and SharePoint.

OpenAI launches new connectors for ChatGPT that allow you to connect with third-party applications, including Google Drive, Dropbox, or SharePoint. This enables users to search files, retrieve live data, or reference content directly in the ChatGPT chat. These connectors are only available for paid subscriptions such as Team, Enterprise, and Edu users, and are currently still in the beta phase. OpenAI also states that they “do not use any information accessible via connectors to train our models.”

Types of connectors

The quick connectors are designed for everyday use. They allow users to perform simple searches such as “Show Q2 goals in Drive” or “Find last week’s roadmap in Box”. The results appear directly in the conversation, along with links to the original files. This method is suitable for tasks like looking up context, summarizing documents, or finding specific files.

For more complex queries, there are connectors for in-depth research. These make it possible to combine data from multiple sources and generate contextualized answers, including citations. Typical applications include incident analyses, comparing internal figures with market benchmarks, or summarizing project documentation from multiple systems.

Custom connectors

Custom connectors are available for ChatGPT Pro, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users. These use the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and can be linked to proprietary systems or external applications. OpenAI does not verify these connectors, so caution is advised when adding such integrations.

To connect to the connectors, open a new chat in ChatGPT, click on Extra > Search connectors or Perform in-depth research, and then select one or more sources. After you’ve asked your question, ChatGPT provides an answer. Afterward, click on a citation to open the answer in the native connected app.
