ChatGPT Now Allows You to Branch Conversations

OpenAI gives users with a free subscription in ChatGPT the ability to create projects, and adds a new feature to branch conversations.

OpenAI is rolling out ‘Projects’ in ChatGPT to users with a free subscription. Additionally, the AI company is adding the ability to branch conversations in ChatGPT. This allows users to ‘copy’ an existing conversation to a new chat window. This feature takes the conversation history into account so you can test different approaches without having to restart the conversation each time.

Projects for Everyone

The ‘Projects’ feature in ChatGPT has been around for some time. It allows users to create workspaces with chats, files, or specific instructions for a particular project. Previously, the ‘Projects’ option was only available to paying users, but now it’s being rolled out to people with a free subscription as well. They can perform a maximum of five file uploads per project.

The number of file uploads is also getting an update for paying users. Plus, Go, and Edu support up to 25 files per project. Pro, Business, and Enterprise support up to 40 files per project. Furthermore, new customization options are available for all subscriptions, including colors and icons, to keep your projects organized.

Branching Conversations

A second innovation within ChatGPT is the ability to branch conversations. This allows users to choose to copy the conversation and history to a new conversation from a specific message. This can be useful, for example, to try different approaches without having to start the conversation all over again.

To do this, right-click on the text. Then select Branch in new chat so you can start a new conversation from that point. This feature is now available in ChatGPT on the web.
