Apple makes Swift Build open-source

Swift Apple

Apple has announced that it is making Swift Build open-source. That’s it the engine used by Xcode.

According to Apple, Swift continues to grow, which is why Swift Build has been made available. That is a powerful and extensible engine that can be used to create Swift projects. Swift Build is used, for example, by Xcode, which supports millions of apps in the App Store, and for the internal process for Apple’s own operating systems.

No more confusion

In a blog, Apple removes all confusion with the build engine in Xcode itself. “On Apple platforms, the two packages led to user confusion, especially when the behavior of the two implementations did not match. Adding Xcode’s build engine to the Swift project provides the tools needed to address these issues.” The name of app that allows you to learn Swift has also been changed from Playgrounds to Playground, writes 9to5Mac.

Swift Build is now available on GitHub. These are turbulent times for Apple, the tech giant recently bought off a lawsuit surrounding Siri’s eavesdropping and allegedly failing to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), according to advocacy groups.
