Microsoft is testing a new recovery feature for admins within the Windows Insider program starting in 2025. Quick Machine Recovery allows IT administrators to remotely restore Windows systems after they have been affected by a crash. The feature is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative that emerged after the global CrowdStrike outage. Quick Machine Recovery will be available to the Windows Insider program community in early 2025.

“The Quick Machine Recovery feature enables IT administrators to perform targeted fixes from Windows Update on PCs, even when machines cannot boot, without needing physical access to the PC,” Microsoft said. This allows employees to be unblocked from broad problems more quickly. Quick Machine Recovery is part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative, created in response to the CrowdStrike crash.

Microsoft is launching more new features to support IT administrators. For example, testers will soon be able to try Administrator Protection. This allows users to make system changes or install apps without admin rights. This requires authentication via Windows Hello.
