Swift Will Officially Support Android through a Working Group.

The Swift Android working group aims to add Android as an officially supported platform within the Swift language.

Swift has established an Android working group to enhance support in the official Swift distribution. The group aims to prevent developers from having to use custom patches outside the official source code. Additionally, the group advises on improvements to core packages like Foundation and Dispatch to better align with the Android environment.

Collaboration

Furthermore, the group collaborates with the Platform Steering Group. Together, they determine the levels of platform support Swift officially offers and how Android fits into this. The working group also establishes which Android API levels and architectures are supported. Continuous integration will include Android tests with every pull request. They also define best practices for linking Swift to the Android Java SDK and packaging Swift libraries in Android apps.
