As announced, Microsoft is renaming its Microsoft 365 app to Microsoft 365-Copilot. The company is also making changes to the Microsoft 365 interface.
Notice anything different about the Microsoft 365 app? Microsoft has given the app a new name and logo. Back last August, it was announced that Microsoft would juggle a name change to make Copilot’s presence more prominent. Although the new name was only lukewarmly received, Microsoft is still just pushing its way through. It is also changing the UI of the Microsoft 365 app.
Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft is making several changes to its Copilot. For example, the app’s name is changing from “Microsoft 365” to “Microsoft 365 Copilot. Furthermore, the new icon, which was already shown at Ignite 2024, is also being officially changed. The name change applies to both the Windows version and the mobile version of Microsoft 365.

It is the second major name change the software bundle is going through. The last name change occurred as recently as the fall of 2022, when the name Office had to give way to Microsoft 365 after 30 years. Still, the name Office remains in the collective mind of Windows users.
Changes UI
In addition, Microsoft will make changes to the UI of Microsoft 365. For example, the top header will disappear and tools such as user profile, settings and feedback will be moved to the bottom left. In addition, the search box will also get a new location on the home page. Furthermore, apps on the left side will be aligned with the top under the name “AI Rich Experience” and Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Copilot Pages will be presented together. The familiar applications Word, Powerpoint, Excel and co get a very minimalist visualization.

In addition, the ‘Back’ button in Microsoft 365 Copilot app disappears, as well as the ‘My Day’ feature and the organization logo. Finally, the ‘Help me create’ feature is being deactivated in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. This feature served to help users create documents with LLMs. Now the AI-assisted document creation will move to the Copilot tab.
Microsoft says it is making these updates to “better support future AI-first experiences. The changes are being rolled out gradually and can be found under message IDs MC958905 and MC958903 of the M365 Message Center.
Copilot for all
The rebranding of Microsoft 365 is part of the parent company’s strategy to get Copilot to as many users as possible, including those with no immediate need. In the United States, Oceania and some Asian countries, Microsoft is allowing itself to add Copilot to subscriptions unsolicited and raise the price. It is not making this change in Europe for now.
