itsme acquires Dutch identification service iDIN

itsme has acquired the Dutch iDIN and plans to integrate the service into the itsme app in the coming years.

itsme announces the acquisition of iDIN, a Dutch service for digital identification. This is itsme’s first foreign acquisition since its establishment in 2017. With this deal, itsme aims to expand its offering in the Dutch private market. The transition is scheduled to start in the spring of 2026 and is expected to continue until 2028.

iDIN becomes itsme

According to itsme, iDIN will eventually be integrated into the itsme app. Current iDIN users should gain access to itsme by mid-2026. Itsme refers to additional applications, such as qualified digital signatures. The company states that initially, nothing will change for consumers.

The transition from iDIN to itsme will start after the conditions agreed upon by the parties have been met. itsme expects to start this migration in the spring of 2026. Completion is scheduled for 2028. The itsme app is already available in the Netherlands and, according to the company, can be activated with a Dutch identity document.

itsme is now available in 30 European countries. In Belgium, more than 80 percent of adults reportedly use the app. The company also mentions more than a million actions per day and collaborations with over 1,200 organizations.

Dutch banks

iDIN is an initiative of Currence, a partnership of Dutch banks. Users identify themselves via their own banking environment at, among others, webshops and insurers. In total, iDIN is said to serve approximately 300 websites linked to the private market. Currence reports 15 million identification actions in 2024.
