Windows 11 finally experiments with tabs in Explorer

Windows 11 tabs

Hidden in the latest test version of Windows 11 is a feature where you can activate tabs in Windows Explorer.

We’ve had to wait a long time for it, but Microsoft seems to have finally given in to the demand to add tabs to Explorer. Hidden in the latest Windows 11 Insider Build for beta testers is the feature. It is Twitter user Rafael Rivera who discovered the tabs.

The feature works exactly as you would expect and is ubiquitous in every Internet browser today. Microsoft has not yet officially announced the new addition. The tabs in Explorer is currently being tested out in the Windows Insider Dev channel. This is the first public testing phase where sometimes features are still being dropped. Hopefully that won’t happen with these welcome tabs.

Microsoft, meanwhile, continues to tinker closely with Windows 11. For example, it plans to install updates only when there is enough sunlight or wind for more green energy and is experimenting with tablet optimizations. Android apps have also already been rolled out to beta testers with accompanying hefty system requirements that exceed Windows 11 requirements. All the new features will be bundled in the first major feature update for Windows 11 later this year called Windows 11 22H2.
