Microsoft Teams is building in new features, some of which were copied from competitor Slack. The ability to send to people outside your own organization is now being rolled out more broadly. Furthermore, the communication platform will have a music mode built in.
Two new features are being added to communications platform Microsoft Teams. First, the platform is getting a high-fidelity music mode. Those who enable the mode can have much better sound clips during a video conference. This is because a new feature should automatically recognize music and adjust the sound quality accordingly.
“As users share more and more audio signals during a virtual appointment with a psychiatrist, such as music lessons, songs via external applications or medical signals, it becomes increasingly important to provide high-fidelity options to transmit audio signals other than voice,” Microsoft shares in the blog post.
Furthermore, the ability to chat with people outside the organization in Teams is being rolled out more broadly. The feature was previously announced.
Simply invite
To invite external to a team, simply send an e-mail to the external’s Microsoft e-mail address. In doing so, a personal account is sufficient.

Slack already rolled out a similar feature at the beginning of 2021. For security reasons, the feature to send messages via email was also quickly removed from the platform. In fact, it was already possible to send messages to people even before they accepted the video meeting invitation. This raised concerns about sending offensive or harassing messages to Slack users.
Constantly renewing
Competitor Zoom is building solidly on its own communications platform. At the beginning of the new year, it already bundled eight new features in an overview to show users what they can still expect. The new features are clearly aimed at business users, as a feature to connect the right expert with customers, among others, is being developed.
Teams is a solid competitor to Zoom and has a lot of active users. To keep these users happy, the platform continues to tinker with new features.
