At an Unpacked event, Samsung announced the new Galaxy S22 lineup in three flavors. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra stands out the most as a Note replacement with a new design.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 has now been officially announced. The first leaks appeared months ago and in recent weeks the cadence increased sensitively. Now we may officially speak of three models:
- Samsung Galaxy S22 (6.1 inch, 120 Hz, 10~120Hz)
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus (6.6 inches, 120 Hz, 10~120Hz)
- Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (6.8 inches, 120 Hz, 1~120Hz)
Of the three models, the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are clearly minor upgrades compared to last year. Even the design is almost identical. The main differences with the Samsung Galaxy S22 are a slightly smaller screen (6.1 inches vs. 6.2 inches), a 10 megapixel zoom lens with 3x optical zoom instead of a 64 megapixel variant with 1.1x optical zoom and a slightly larger battery (3,700 mAh vs. 4,000 mAh). Those who like to compare the two generations directly can go here.

The three S22 models use Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 chip in Europe, the world’s first-ever 4 nm chip.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus follows the same move as the S22 with a true zoom lens with 3x optical zoom. Again, the screen is slightly smaller compared to its predecessor (6.6 inches vs. 6.7 inches) and the battery grows a bit (4,500 mAh to 4,800 mAh).
Unlike the smallest S22 model, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus does support fast charging up to 45 watts. The S22’s standard speed is 25 watts. A detailed comparison between the S22 Plus and S21 Plus can be found here.

Again, there is no charger in the box, just like last year. Those who want fast charging can optionally buy a Samsung fast charger or another brand (or your laptop charger). Samsung follows the Power Delivery standard for fast charging, and you’re lucky to find it in a lot of USB-C chargers.
Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
It goes without saying that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra goes with the plumes as a top-of-the-line model, but now it is in the extra spotlight due to its limited upgrade from the other models. It is the only one with an entirely new design. Samsung does so for a reason, as this model merges the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series into one model.

There is room in the S22 Ultra for a stylus to appease Note lovers who didn ‘t get a new model last year. The large 6.8-inch screen remains, more than enough space to multitask or write on. In terms of camera, little changes hardware-wise compared to the Galaxy S21, but that doesn’t stop Samsung from refining software quite a bit with a focus on photos and videos in dark and other challenging conditions.
Like the S22 Plus, the Ultra variant supports fast charging up to 45 watts via an optional charger from Samsung or another brand. Those eager to compare the S21 Ultra to the S22 Ultra in detail can go here.
