Proton has announced its roadmap for spring and summer 2026. The company is primarily working on major updates to existing products rather than new services.
Proton publishes its roadmap for the coming six months. The emphasis is mainly on major updates for Mail, Calendar, Drive, VPN, Pass, and Lumo AI, with a focus on privacy, integration, and ease of use. Several features will also be added to facilitate migration away from Big Tech.
Proton Mail and Calendar
Proton Mail is introducing a category overview that automatically groups emails, simplifying inbox management. Users can decide for themselves which categories are active. Additionally, it will be possible to send and receive emails from other providers, such as Gmail, directly from Proton Mail. The mobile app will get extensive search capabilities, allowing the full content of emails to be searched without compromising privacy.
Proton Calendar is being completely rewritten and, according to Proton, will feature a more modern, secure interface. Features such as offline mode, appointment booking pages, and the ability to set Calendar as the default calendar on Android are being added.
VPN, Pass, and Drive
Proton VPN is getting a new WireGuard codebase, which should make the apps faster, more reliable, and more resistant to censorship. Linux users will receive visual updates and support for the Stealth protocol. Personalized connection preferences are also being rolled out to Windows.
Proton Pass is improving its autofill with iFrame support and URL matching, and introducing the ability to organize passwords into folders. SSH keys will soon be easier to use across devices.
Proton recently launched Proton Meet, a free European alternative to Microsoft Teams.
