Qualcomm introduces the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a new mobile chip designed for premium mobile phones.
Qualcomm presents the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as its fastest mobile system-on-chip to date. The chip features the third generation of the Oryon CPU, which is claimed to perform twenty percent faster than its predecessor. Qualcomm combines two powerful ‘Prime’ cores with six more efficient ‘Performance’ cores into an octa-core chip with a peak frequency of 4.6 GHz.
GPU and NPU
Graphics performance also improves, with a new Adreno GPU that delivers up to 23 percent better performance according to Qualcomm. For AI processing, the chip relies on the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, for which the chip specialist claims a 37 percent performance improvement.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 also supports video recording in Advanced Professional Video (APV) format. This is designed to give creative users more control in video production and post-processing.
