Oppo introduces a premium phone with the Find X5 Pro that rivals the best devices on the market today.
Oppo is taking a year off with the Find X5 Pro: the successor to the excellent Find X3 Pro. You didn’t miss the X4: Oppo gives no official reason but the number four is an unlucky number in China that Chinese companies like to stay away from.
Specifications
X5 Pro, in other words. Behind that name is a device very similar to the Find X3 Pro. The 6.7-inch WQHD+ display is the same size and gets a dynamic refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display supports 10-bit color and provides readability in bright daylight thanks to a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits. The design on the back does differ a bit. For the back, Oppo will now use ceramic instead of glass and the camera island will have an asymmetrical shape. Like it or not, that’s a matter of taste, but at least it’s something different. The back is supposed to be more scratch-resistant than glass. The entire device is also IP68 certified.

Oppo is building the device around the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1: the most powerful mobile SoC on the market today. The 5,000 mAh battery supports 80 watts of charging via SuperVooc and is said to be half-full within 12 minutes. Wireless charging can be done at 50 watts. The battery is also said to withstand more charging cycles than before. The device runs Oppo’s own ColorOS shell on top of Android 12.
Camera central
Oppo’s focus for the Find X5 Pro is on the camera experience. Again, the phone comes with two main cameras: one with a regular lens and one with a wide-angle lens. Both use the same 50 MP sensor. Oppo packs optical image stabilization across five axes: the sensor moves on three axes and the lens itself on two. That should make handheld photos in low light a lot better.
The camera also gets some new modes, of which the “long exposure time” mode is the most interesting in our opinion. With it, you can photograph water, clouds or passing traffic with a long shutter speed for professional-looking effects. We already have the Oppo Find X5 Pro in our pocket for a review soon, but are happy to share our initial enthusiasm for that feature in the meantime.

The phone owes its functionality in part to a proprietary NPU that Oppo incorporates into this device: the MariSilicon X. That chip provides real-time photography magic. Oppo is clearly proud of the chip and sees fit to mention it by name on the back of its device. Furthermore, the new phone has a 13 MP telephoto lens with 5x hybrid zoom. At the front is a 32 MP selfie camera that again should perform better in low light.
Oppo is moving forward with Hasselblad, but that does not involve the camera hardware for now. The camera app does get Hasselblad design elements and comes with Hasselblad filters. Oppo is also printing this brand name prominently on the back of its smartphone.
Variants and availability
Oppo is flanking the Find X5 Pro with two lighter variants. The regular Find X5 is very similar to its bigger brother, but lacks the ceramic finish. The device does have similar functionality and still falls under the premium segment. The Find X5 Lite is a mid-range device that has hardly anything in common with the other two devices, except the name.
The Find X5 Pro and the regular X5 will be available starting March 3. Before the launch, read an in-depth review of the Find X5 Pro here. The Oppo Find X5 Pro will cost 1,299 euros, putting it in the same price range as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The regular Oppo Find X5 will retail for 999 euros. The Find X5 Lite will be released on March 11 and will cost 479 euros.
