The OnePlus 13 series is complete with the launch of the 13R. The device should serve as a stepping stone to the flagship and offers a handful of premium specs at a lower price.

After the launch of the OnePlus 13, the next OnePlus phone follows just days later. Like last year, OnePlus is launching a cheaper version of its flagship model and adding an “R” to the name. If the OnePlus 13 is full-fat milk, the 13R is half-fat milk. The taste is the same, but you don’t have the richness of whole milk.

The OnePlus 13R is a bit smaller than its more expensive brother, though you have to take a ruler to see the difference (6.78 inches versus 6.82 inches). At 1,264 x 2,780, the 13R falls just short of 2K resolution, but you’ll still get sharp images. The device is reinforced with the latest type of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, which offers increased protection against scratches.

The IP rating is limited at IP65: we do not recommend spraying the OnePlus 13R with a pressure washer. Thanks to Aqua Touch technology, you won’t have to worry about a few drops. You will still be able to operate the device smoothly with wet hands or during a rainstorm.

Large battery

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor powers the smartphone. With it, the device will be able to present good performance comparable to flagships launched in the previous calendar year. Thus, only the top model will already be equipped with the Snapdragon Elite chip. With 12 GB of RAM, the 13R is nevertheless well equipped.

What the OnePlus 13 and 13R do share is the huge 6,000 mAh battery. Unlike the OnePlus 13, the battery consists of a single cell. The device charges at up to 80 W with cable, preferably a branded SuperVOOC cable. Wireless charging is not supported on this model.

OnePlus also has to make trade-offs in terms of cameras. The OnePlus 13R has a 50 MP main camera with Sony LYT-700 sensor. The 50 MP zoom camera supports up to 2x digital zoom. The 8 MP wide-angle camera sounds much less impressive on paper. A palette of AI-powered photo functions fills in where the cameras hit their limits.

The OnePlus 13R comes with Android 15 out of the box and enjoys the same support as the flagship model. That includes four Android upgrades and six years of security updates. The device will be available in black or silver and will cost 749 euros including VAT for the base configuration with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
