MediaTek launches a new chip for premium smartphones with the Dimensity 9500. The SoC is built around brand-new C1 and G1 ARM designs.
Processor specialist MediaTek unveils the Dimensity 9500. This is immediately the company’s most high-end system-on-a-chip (SOC). The Dimensity 9500 is built for premium smartphones and is set to compete with the top of Qualcomm’s lineup, more specifically the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series.
Arm Designs
For the chip, MediaTek relies on the newly launched CPU and GPU designs from Arm. Consequently, the processor component of the SoC is built using cores from the Arm C1 range. MediaTek combines a single Arm C1-Ultra core clocked at 4.21 GHz with three C1-Premium cores and four C1-pro cores, totaling eight computing cores.

MediaTek claims that this new configuration offers 32 percent higher single-core performance, thanks to the Ultra core. It’s also said to be 55 percent more power-efficient under heavy workloads. Looking at the entire chip, performance increases by seventeen percent compared to the Dimensity 9400.
On the graphics side, MediaTek integrates the equally new Arm Mali G1-Ultra-GPU. In the Dimensity, it’s supposed to perform 33 percent better and be 42 percent more efficient than the graphics component in the Dimensity 9400. MediaTek is primarily targeting users who want to play games on their smartphones.
Of course, the NPU must also be mentioned. AI computing power comes from the NPU 990, which should be better at handling local AI models. The chip’s computing cores are also equipped with AI acceleration via SME2.
Faster Storage
Furthermore, the chip now supports quad-channel UFS 4.1 storage. This significantly boosts sequential data transfer speeds and enhances the overall performance of a smartphone. The MediaTek Imagiq 1190 ISP (image processor) on the SoC also stands out. It can handle 200 MP at 30 fps with continuous focus. A portrait engine supports portrait video at 4K 60fps.
We can expect the Dimensity 9500 in the Oppo Find X9 series this fall. Details about this are not yet known.
