Six out of ten IT Professionals shut down laptop daily

The majority of IT professionals shut down their laptop after each (work)day, while one in ten does so weekly. Sleep mode is much less popular.

Whether you should shut down your laptop daily is a topic of debate among PC users. Some turn off their laptop daily to save battery, while others prefer sleep mode to quickly resume where they left off. ITdaily surveyed IT professionals about what they do with their laptops.

The survey shows that IT professionals are generally disciplined about shutting down their laptop when it’s no longer actively in use. 62 percent do this daily, while one in ten (11 percent) give their laptop a weekly rest. 382 respondents participated in the survey.

Sleep Mode not popular

Notably, only 9 percent prefer to put their PC in sleep mode. The remaining eighteen percent prefer to keep their PC running as long as possible. Thirteen percent usually just close their laptop or walk away from their workstation without shutting down the device. Five percent wait until the battery is (almost) completely empty and only turn off the device when it’s time to recharge.

While it’s certainly necessary to give your PC a rest occasionally, you don’t always need to completely shut down your laptop when it’s no longer active to save battery. Sleep and hibernate modes can have their advantages too. In this article we discuss in detail the different ways to turn off your PC, and in which situations they work best.
