VMware is expanding the functionality of Horizon on Samsung Dex with a much-requested feature. From now on, you can combine a tablet and an external, just like a real PC.
On Samsung Dex, VMware Horizon allows you to combine an external screen and your tablet into one. That way you work with two displays, analogous to a Windows laptop that you connect to a second screen. That functionality was high on users’ wish list, according to VMware.
Dex and Horizon
Dex is a Samsung solution where you get into a desktop interface when you connect a premium Samsung phone to a screen. Vmware bet on that functionality by bringing its VDI solution Horizon to Dex. That turned Samsung smartphones into thin clients for Horizon but there were limitations.
Vmware now uses Dex’s Dual Mode feature along with APIs to spread a full-fledged Windows experience across two screens via Horizon. Specifically, that means you can put a Samsung tablet next to your screen and integrate that tablet into your Windows desktop. Mouse and keyboard will seamlessly pop out to tablet as if it were a regular external display. The solution also works with Vmware Workspace One.
