Dell Technologies introduces new B2B monitors for conferencing

Dell Technologies introduces new Dell Pro P displays. These USB-C monitors are designed to support flexible working.

Dell is introducing three new displays for office workers. Hybrid work and flexibility are central to the announcement. The new displays are all height-adjustable (up to 150 mm) and tiltable, meeting basic ergonomic requirements. Dell wants employees to be able to quickly connect their devices to a monitor and dive straight into a video meeting.

Screen with webcam

With that philosophy in mind, the name of the Dell Pro P 34 USB-C Hub Conferencing Monitor speaks volumes. The device is Microsoft Teams and Zoom certified and features a 5 MP HDR camera. It is notable that Dell has opted for a less advanced webcam here than in its recently launched laptops. If you buy a new Dell Pro 7, you are theoretically better off with the laptop’s 8 MP camera than the one on this connected screen. That puts the focus on video conferencing into perspective.

Dell does integrate a few bells and whistles, with plenty of buzzwords. The company’s marketing department still believes that adding AI to a feature’s name will drive people wild, so we get AI auto-framing (where the camera zooms in and keeps you in the frame) and AI noise reduction in the microphones.

You would almost forget that Dell is announcing a monitor and not a meeting bar. Fortunately, the manufacturer also shares details about the display. The monitor features a 34-inch IPS panel with 3,440 x 1,440 pixels (21:9) and an anti-reflective coating. The contrast ratio is 1,500:1 and the maximum brightness is 350 cd/m². That isn’t particularly high and may be insufficient for those with a window behind them on a sunny day. Dell states that the monitor covers 99 percent of the sRGB color gamut, illustrating that this screen is primarily aimed at office workers rather than graphics professionals.

The display also functions as a USB-C Hub (with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode and up to 90 W Power Delivery). You get three USB-A ports, two additional USB-C connections, and an RJ-45 port for networking. Connecting a laptop is also possible via HDMI and DisplayPort. Speakers are built-in.

Don’t want speakers in the screen? Then you can go for the Dell Pro P 34 USB-C Hub Webcam Monitor. This is essentially the same device, with the same panel, the same camera, and the same connections, but without built-in audio.

Screen without webcam

Finally, there is the Dell Pro P 27 USB-C Hub Monitor. This is actually just a regular screen. Conferencing features are not present, but the connectivity is similar to the models mentioned above.

For those who don’t need conferencing features, Dell provides fewer pixels: the device has a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution (16:9) with a 27-inch screen diagonal. The contrast is the same as the other displays, but the brightness is particularly limited at just 300 cd/m². That seems a bit too low for anyone investing in a professional office monitor.
