Some Dell PCs are experiencing problems going into sleep mode or not shutting down completely. Microsoft’s major Windows 11 24H2 update is the culprit; Dell is working on a fix.

Since the rollout of Windows 11 24H2, many problems have surfaced with the new update. Recently, the Alt + Tab shortcut keys caused a black screen, or a bug left users with 9 GB of unremovable files. To the list of bugs you may now add Dell PCs that can no longer shut down.

A support document from the manufacturer says there is a compatibility issue between Windows 11 24H2 and the Dell Encryption app. Version 11.9 does not appear to be compatible with the update and hinders the PC from shutting down. Putting the PC to sleep also fails. It is mainly business laptops that are affected.

Automatic repair

Microsoft has not yet acknowledged the problem, but fortunately Dell has. They have since finished version 11.10 of the Dell Encryption app. This corrects the error. Extra handy: the software updates automatically as soon as the error is recognized.
