Available from mid-2022, the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a folding 17-inch screen that you can use flexibly. Asus also supplies a matching keyboard to complete the set.
A year after the launch of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold, the world’s first laptop with a folding screen, Asus is venturing into the concept. The biggest upgrade compared to Lenovo’s variant is the much larger screen, 17.3-inches versus 13.3-inches. The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED has a 4:3 screen ratio in tablet mode and a 3:2 ratio when you use it as a clamshell. In the latter mode, you still have a 12.5-inch screen to work on, which should be perfectly usable.
The OLED screen has a resolution of 2,560 x 1,920 pixels. In clamshell mode, you are left with a 12.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels. According to Asus, the panel has a color gamut of 100 percent DCI-P3.
Price and availability
Asus provides as standard a bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad that, unlike Lenovo’s, is a full size for comfortable typing. The keyboard fits into the fold of the laptop when it is closed, just like the ThinkPad X1 Fold.
Inside, you can configure the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED with a 12th-generation Intel Core i7 chip from the U category. Furthermore, you can choose up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. To power the large screen long enough, Asus provides a 75 Wh battery. An estimated battery life is not given by the manufacturer. Connectivity is limited to two USB-C ports that are Thunderbolt 4 compatible.
The Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED will be in stores worldwide starting in mid-2022. A recommended retail price will not be announced by the manufacturer until closer to launch.
