Microsoft will soon provide its Notepad with multiple formatting options including bold and italic text, hyperlinks, and also Markdown support.
With Windows Notepad, you will soon be able to enhance and structure your texts thanks to new text formatting capabilities. These include bold and italic text, hyperlinks, lists and headers, as well as Markdown support. Microsoft has started rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels on Windows 11.

“With this update, we’re introducing lightweight formatting in Notepad, giving you extra flexibility in how you structure content in your files”, according to Dave Grochocki in a Windows Insider blog.
In addition to various text formatting options such as bold and italic text, hyperlinks, lists and headers, Microsoft offers Markdown support. This is a markup language primarily used by developers. It allows users to switch between the formatted view and the raw Markdown syntax.

This is not the first makeover for Notepad. Recently, the application also received new AI features. Microsoft is reportedly testing a feature that will soon allow users to have AI write their text in Notepad. The new formatting features in Windows Notepad are being rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels on Windows 11.
