Windows 11 Phone Link won’t let go of your phone

The ability to remove your phone from the Phone Link app in Windows 11 has suddenly become unavailable. It is unclear if this is a bug.

Windows 11 Phone Link is a handy application to connect your phone to your PC. This allows you to read text messages or view photos from your PC. Normally the connection is easy to disconnect again, but the option to remove your device via settings has suddenly disappeared.

It is unclear whether this is a bug in Windows 11 and whether Microsoft will come up with a fix. The bug has been reported to Microsoft via the Windows Feedback Hub, but there has been no response yet. It could also be a deliberate tweak by Microsoft, but the added value of not being able to delete your device again completely escapes us.

The bug otherwise has little impact on the operation of Phone Link. However, it can be annoying if you wanted to use Phone Link once or a connected device is no longer actively in use.

If you want to delete a device, at this time you can only do so by logging out of Phone Link. You will then have to reconnect your device(s) the next time you open the app.
