The Patch Tuesday update KB5058379 requests a Bitlocker recovery code on some systems.
The most recent security update for Windows 10 is causing unexpected issues. The May Patch Tuesday update, KB5058379, is requesting a BitLocker recovery code from some users after starting their PC without reason. Normally, such a BitLocker prompt only appears when changes have been made to the BIOS or hardware.
Recovery Code Required
Both private users and businesses are experiencing issues, reports PCWorld. They have reported about it on platforms including Reddit, Microsoft forums and the German site Borncity. Without the correct recovery code, the system remains blocked, and users cannot start their PC. In some cases, a system restore to a point before the update is necessary.
Some users are seeing a blue screen error (BSOD) after starting up.
Temporary Solution in BIOS
According to Windows Latest, it helps to disable the Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) function in the BIOS. This solution works especially for devices from Dell, HP, and Lenovo with Windows 10 version 22H2 or 21H2 Enterprise.
Microsoft has not yet officially mentioned the problems on the update’s support page. The patch is important for your system security and is normally installed automatically. Those who are not experiencing issues don’t need to do anything.
