WhatsApp allows multiple accounts on one phone on iOS

WhatsApp is rolling out an update for iOS that allows multiple accounts on one device. The functionality has existed in Android since 2023.

WABetaInfo noticed the feature in the latest beta update of WhatsApp on iOS, version 25.2.10.70. Users have the ability to manage multiple WhatsApp accounts from a single device. This eliminates the need for users who have a personal and work phone number, for example, to juggle multiple devices or applications.

Two accounts on one device

The second accounts can be set up as a standalone primary account or as a secondary account via QR code. To use two accounts on one phone, your device does need to support dual SIM, as each account must have its own phone number. It does not matter whether the second SIM is physical or eSIM. Does your phone have space for only one SIM card? Then use the activation code of the second SIM to verify it.

Once set up, you can switch smoothly between the two accounts. Chats, notifications, backups and settings are stored separately from each other. Your accounts function completely independently of each other when used from a device.

For now, the functionality is only accessible in the beta version of WhatsApp. You can try out beta updates on iOS via Apple’s TestFlight channel. This does involve stability risks to your device, so this is at your own risk.

For Android users, this sounds like old news. On Android, the functionality to switch between two accounts has been available since 2023.
