WhatsApp is dropping its support for certain old smartphones as of Jan. 1, 2025. Find out if your smartphone is among them in the list below.

WhatsApp will no longer support some older smartphones as of Jan. 1, 2025. This includes about 20 models from brands including Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony. This information comes from Italy’s HDBlog. Don’t want to lose your WhatsApp conversations? Then be sure to create a backup in a timely manner.

No support

WhatsApp will no longer be available on a range of smartphones from brands including Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony starting Jan. 1, 2025. These are old models, namely smartphones still running on Android KitKat or older operating systems, and thus easily a decade old.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, is doing this mainly for security reasons and to ensure continued functionality of the app. Below is a list of smartphones that will no longer be supported by WhatsApp as of 2025.

Is your smartphone in the above list? Then it’s best to back up your WhatsApp conversations. That way, you can transfer your conversations to your new smartphone with them. This is because from Jan. 1, 2025, you will no longer be able to access WhatsApp on your old smartphone (from the list).
