The new release of RHEL focuses on AI-supported management, post-quantum security, and a standard container approach. RHEL 10 breathes hybrid cloud.
Red Hat unveils RHEL 10, the new release of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. The release is aimed at organizations active in hybrid cloud environments. The focus is on AI, future-proof security, and hybrid cloud.
Faster than Light
RHEL 10 includes a built-in AI assistant, Lightspeed. It helps administrators with troubleshooting, system queries, and best practices through natural language, directly via the command line. According to an IDC study sponsored by Red Hat, many companies lack experienced Linux administrators. Lightspeed is intended to partially address this problem.
In terms of security, Red Hat introduces support for post-quantum cryptography according to FIPS standards. This is intended to protect data today against possible attacks in the future when quantum computers are widespread, although that will still take a few years. Experts expect that quantum computers will have no trouble with today’s encryption keys.
Containers as Standard
RHEL 10 opts for containers as standard with ‘image mode’. The operating system and applications are managed in a single image, which should simplify deployment and maintenance. Red Hat Insights provides recommendations during image creation to minimize error margins.
The new version comes with ready-to-use, supported images for AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Through an extension repository, users can also safely discover community software, including Podman Desktop.
Furthermore, RHEL 10 supports new hardware and software architectures. In collaboration with SiFive and others, Red Hat aims to offer a reliable development platform for emerging technologies. Through a Security Select Add-On, organizations can focus on specific vulnerabilities, with guaranteed patches for selected CVEs.
RHEL 10 is immediately available through the Red Hat Customer Portal. Developers can also use the platform for free via the Red Hat Developer Program.
