External developers can now submit apps for review and publication in ChatGPT. Users will also have access to an app directory to search for and launch apps.
OpenAI is offering external developers the opportunity to submit apps for review and publication in ChatGPT. According to the company, these could include apps for ordering groceries, converting a sketch, or finding a home. A few months ago, OpenAI already launched a software kit that allows companies to build applications that can be used immediately in ChatGPT.
App directory in ChatGPT
At the same time, OpenAI is introducing an app directory in ChatGPT. Users can discover apps via the menu or via chatgpt.com/apps. Developers can also share deep links to their app page in the directory.

After connecting, users can launch apps in conversations. This can be done by mentioning an app with the @ symbol, or by selecting the app in the tools menu. OpenAI is also testing ways to promote apps in conversations.
Software kit
Developers can use the Apps SDK, which OpenAI is designating as a beta. OpenAI says that apps work best when they support a defined task, or when they complete a clear workflow in a conversation.
Developers submit their app via the OpenAI Developer Platform, where they can also track the status of the review. Submissions include MCP connectivity information, test instructions, directory information, and country-specific settings.
