Microsoft discontinues support for DirectAccess

Microsoft is discontinuing support for DirectAccess in Windows 11. The feature will be discontinued for future Windows updates.

The latest 24H2 update to Windows 11 no longer allows users to use DirectAccess. Instead, Microsoft wants them to switch to Always On VPN, write Heowin. Through the DirectAccess feature, you could instantly access internal resources such as file servers without the need for a VPN connection.

The fact that the 24H2 update did not work properly was evident earlier. Some users received a blue screen of death after the update. There were also reports of users suddenly unable to use DirectAccess.

In principle, the feature should still work, because unlike WordPad, it is only obsolete and not yet removed. One solution that does work is to roll back to an earlier version of Windows.

Microsoft communicated earlier this month what 24H2 entailed for professionals. However, there was no word about DirectAccess, as was the ability to copy files faster. Fortunately, the DirectAccess problem has been picked up through the official Microsoft Support X account. It may be some time before Microsoft comes up with a response or solution.
