Microsoft is rolling back a model upgrade to Bing Image Creator after numerous user complaints.
Microsoft has reversed a model upgrade of Bing Image Creator after users were dissatisfied with the loss of quality of generated images. At issue is the upgrade to the latest version of the DALL-E 3 model.
New version of Dall-E
For now, Microsoft is not commenting on the decision to roll back the upgrade, nor did it explain the cause. The only response came from Jordi Ribas, CVP Search & AI, in a post on his X account. In it, he explains that employees were able to reproduce “some reported issues” and are reverting to an older version of the Dall-E 3 model for now.
Since the change in December, users on social media and forums such as Reddit and OpenAI complained about less detailed images or results that did not properly match their text prompts. Ribas stated that the quality “should be slightly better than before,” but many users disagreed.
As of now, Microsoft apparently must not only fix bugs, but also deal with criticism from AI art enthusiasts who have specific expectations of the generated images.
