Microsoft adds a new visual appearance to the header and footer to improve the user experience for site owners and visitors.

Microsoft is modernizing the header and footer of SharePoint sites. Users will get a more visually appealing header and footer with multiple capabilities, including the option to add background images and choose fonts that match their brand identity. For site visitors, the SharePoint site also looks much cleaner. Microsoft shares multiple details of this renewed visual appearance in a new blog post.

SharePoint Sites

Microsoft SharePoint is a widely used application for companies to manage their content and files. It often serves as an intranet platform for HR policies or websites. For companies deeply integrated into Microsoft’s ecosystem, this modernization will be welcome.

Headers and Footers

The new features in Microsoft SharePoint sites are split into two categories, for site owners and site visitors. Site owners now have the ability to add background images in the headers and footers. Users can also customize the font to better align with their brand identity.

There’s a choice of predefined font families to format the title, navigation links, footer name, and footer links of your website. Additionally, there’s new support for left-aligned footers.

Site Visitors

For site visitors, the above capabilities are of course visible if the owners apply them. Furthermore, the command bar for visitors is hidden in display mode, providing a cleaner experience.

The new features will be rolled out to all web customers by the end of August 2025. Microsoft expects the full rollout to be completed by mid-September 2025.
