Microsoft has given Copilot in Windows 10 and 11 a shortcut key and a revamped interface in the taskbar.
Microsoft is rolling out an update for Windows Insiders that changes the display of Copilot in the taskbar. So Copilot will have a quick display in the taskbar, and that should make for a better experience than the previous Progressive Web Application (PWA).
Confusing shortcut key
Copilot’s new quick view floats above the taskbar and can be displayed with the Alt + spacebar shortcut key. The window always remains above other applications, Microsoft writes in the Windows Insider Blog. Other Windows apps already use the Alt + spacebar hotkey, so it can get confusing which app uses that hotkey. Windows assigns the hotkey to the application that launches first. The Copilot button on the keyboard of the latest Windows laptops also still works.
This is a step toward an integrated user experience of Copilot in Windows, although it is still the Web version. Both the interface and the hotkey are available on Windows 10 and 11, and that’s even though support for Windows 10 will end in October 2025.
