The translation tool DeepL can now translate video meetings and phone calls live, available in forty languages.

DeepL is a widely used tool for translating text, but the translation app is making the leap to spoken communication today. It announces Voice-to-Voice, a product suite that can be integrated into meeting platforms, mobile devices, or customer channels to translate conversations live. The speech-to-speech translations are available in forty languages.

According to DeepL founder and CEO Jarek Kutylowski, this removes one of the primary language barriers. “With DeepL Voice-to-Voice, everyone can speak naturally in their own language, without the effort or cost of interpreters,” Kutylowski said in a press release.

Translations on various platforms

DeepL will offer its Voice-to-Voice module on various platforms, which companies can add to their communication channels directly or via an API. Voice for Conversations, available immediately, can be rolled out in environments where installing apps is impractical or not permitted. DeepL says its translation technology adapts over time to company-specific terminology, including technical terms, product and company names, and first names.

An early access program is running for Voice for Meetings, which translates Teams and Zoom meetings live, and for the API to add the technology to internal applications. SMEs can access DeepL speech translations directly via the web. DeepL previously launched a Voice API to bring real-time translations to business applications.

40 languages

At launch, DeepL Voice-to-Voice will support forty languages. In addition to the 24 official national languages in the European Union, these also include Arabic, Norwegian, Thai, and Hebrew.
