Claude for Word is now available as an add-in for Team and Enterprise plans. The tool integrates AI functionality directly into Word, with a focus on legal professionals.
Anthropic launches Claude for Word in public beta. Through this add-on, users can integrate Claude directly into Microsoft Word. According to Anthropic, the tool is primarily aimed at legal purposes such as reviewing, redacting, and drafting contracts, policy documents, and other business texts. With this new tool, Microsoft’s own Copilot, which is also integrated into Word, faces direct competition.
Claude for Word is now available in public beta for customers on Claude Team and Enterprise plans.
Legal documents
“Claude for Word accelerates document work through intelligent support. It reads complex documents with multiple sections, works through comment threads, and edits clauses while preserving your formatting, numbering, and styles,” according to Microsoft. Anthropic previously brought Claude to PowerPoint and Excel.
Claude for Word offers various capabilities, such as asking questions about documents with direct citations, editing selected text while maintaining formatting, and working with tracked changes in the native review pane. The tool can also process comment threads or summarize changes from opposing parties.
Additionally, users can have templates filled in automatically, complete tables, and generate sections in the style of the existing document. Claude shares context with Claude for Excel and PowerPoint, allowing data and content to be easily exchanged between different Office apps without extra steps. Anthropic does state that all output must be reviewed by a legal professional.
Claude in Word
Users can deploy the app directly within their existing Word environment, provided they have the appropriate subscription. Claude for Word is currently available to customers with a Claude Team or Enterprise plan. The add-in is compatible with Word on the web, Windows (Microsoft 365 version 2205 or later), and Mac (version 16.61 or later).
