DeepL is releasing a Voice API that allows companies to transcribe and translate speech in real time within their own applications.
The translation service DeepL announces DeepL Voice API. This API allows developers to integrate real-time speech transcription and translation into business applications. Companies can forward audio streams and receive transcriptions in the source language, supplemented with translations into up to five target languages. It is not yet clear which languages are involved.
According to the company, the Voice API is mainly of interest to organizations where telephony and spoken communication are central, such as call centers. This way, employees do not have to master all customer languages. The DeepL Voice API will be available to DeepL API Pro customers from February 2.
Customer service and internal processes
DeepL indicates that the API can help with conversations with customers who speak a different language. Teams can follow the transcription and translation on the screen during the conversation. This should make it easier to handle issues without extra steps, such as passing them on to colleagues or switching to written communication.

In addition to live support, the API also helps with operational follow-up. Transcriptions and translations can be used for quality controls and training of customer service teams. This can simplify evaluations across locations and languages, because conversations are available in the same format.
Availability
The DeepL Voice API will be available to DeepL API Pro customers from February 2. In addition, there is a six-week program available with early access to a speech-to-speech function. This function is expected to be available from mid-February and allows employees to listen to the translated audio in real time during conversations.
