OpenAI is launching a new Pro plan for ChatGPT, offering higher usage limits at a monthly price of 100 euros per month.

OpenAI is expanding the subscription options for ChatGPT. A new Pro plan is being released to serve as an ‘intermediate’ tier between the Plus plan and the 229 euro per month Pro subscription. The new subscription costs 103 euros per month and offers higher usage limits than the Plus plan.

On the OpenAI website, the hundred euro per month Pro subscription appears to replace the original 200 euro per month subscription, but the company confirms that the most expensive tier still exists. The different rates for ChatGPT are now as follows:

  • Free, with ads
  • Go: eight euros per month, with ads
  • Plus: 23 euros per month, without ads
  • Pro: 103 euros per month, without ads
  • Pro: 229 euros per month, without ads

Higher usage limits

OpenAI states that the new Pro subscription is intended to better serve developers or so-called ‘power users’. Since the introduction of the coding tool Codex, which Plus and Pro subscriptions have access to, users with cheaper subscriptions hit their daily limits in no time. More complex coding tasks consume a lot of credits.

“The new Pro subscription is intended to provide developers with more practical programming capacity for their money, particularly during intensive work sessions where limits matter most,” OpenAI told TechCrunch. No subscription is unlimited, but for a Pro subscription, the limit is five times higher than for Plus. The most expensive Pro subscription offers up to twenty times higher usage limits.

It’s not just OpenAI Codex users complaining about usage limits. Anthropic’s coding assistant Claude Code struggles with the same issues. OpenAI claims that its Codex offers ‘more coding capacity per euro’ than competitor Anthropic.
