Amazon Web Services and GitLab are joining hands to accelerate software development with AI.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and GitLab are collaborating to support developers with AI-driven automation through Q Developer, an agentic AI assistant from AWS. The integration with GitLab Duo, GitLab’s AI tools, aims to accelerate and simplify software development.
AI as a Team Member
Q Developer functions as a digital colleague within the development process. Developers can delegate complex tasks such as code optimization, security updates, or code explanation to the AI agent. Thanks to access to the context of the repository and tickets, the agent provides intelligent and relevant code suggestions.
According to AWS vice president Deepak Singh, developers don’t want separate AI functions, but a tool that improves the entire workflow. For example, Q Developer can automatically modernize outdated Java code, including upgrade plans and documentation. “Even in the early stages, we saw how the deeper integration with autonomous agents could streamline our process,” a DevOps engineer at Volkswagen tells SiliconANGLE.
The bundle of GitLab Duo with Amazon Q is available from today for GitLab Ultimate customers using AWS.
