Anthropic is improving its memory feature, allowing users to copy their data from competing chatbots to Claude AI in two steps.
In October 2025, Anthropic launched a new memory feature that allows the chatbot to remember previous conversations to cater to a person’s preferences. This feature was initially available to Team and Enterprise users, and was later rolled out to all paying subscribers.
Now the company is updating its memory feature. Users can import their conversation history from other AI chatbots into Claude AI to continue the conversation there.

This new feature comes just as Anthropic is being sidelined for OpenAI by the US Pentagon following an ethical conflict over its language models.
Copy-paste
With the update, users can now more easily switch to the Claude AI chatbot. AI preferences from other chatbots, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, are transferred to Claude AI. “This makes your first conversation feel like your hundredth,” says Anthropic.

Under Settings > Capabilities you will find Import memory from other AI providers. The switch happens in two steps. Claude prepares a prompt that you copy with one click and then paste into the chat window of the competing chatbot. You then copy and paste the resulting response into the Claude chat window.
The import feature is available to all users, including free subscribers.
