Adobe has launched Quick Cut within the Adobe Firefly video editor. The new feature automatically converts raw video clips into a first structured rough cut based on a short description from the user.

Adobe is launching a new Quick Cut feature in Adobe Firefly. This feature creates an initial usable version of a video based on individual clips. This way, creators don’t have to start with a blank slate and can build upon an initial rough cut. According to Adobe, this feature is suitable for reporters, journalists, or podcasters who struggle to turn raw footage into a final video.

Rough cut

Users can upload their own b-roll or other video segments into the Firefly video editor. They then describe in a few sentences what kind of video they want to create, such as an interview, product demo, or vlog. Based on that input, Quick Cut automatically assembles a first rough cut with a focus on narrative structure.

The tool analyzes the provided footage and follows, for example, the flow of a voice-over or interview. Users can also provide additional guidelines, such as a shot list or a full script.

Quick Cut allows for several parameters to be set in advance. For instance, creators can choose an aspect ratio, enable automatic pacing, or set a fixed duration. It is also possible to add a separate b-roll track to keep supporting footage structured.

AI offering

Quick Cut is part of the broader Adobe Firefly ecosystem. That platform combines AI models from Adobe itself, as well as from parties such as Google, OpenAI, and Runway. Within the same environment, users can generate images, convert still images to video, and then bring everything together in the editor.

With the addition of Quick Cut, Adobe is further expanding its AI functionality toward automated video editing, with the aim of accelerating and streamlining the production process for content creators.
