Adobe Announces a Series of New AI Features for Premiere Pro and After Effects

Adobe makes Generative Extend in 4K generally available in Premiere Pro. The feature allows video editors to automatically add extra footage and audio material to clips. Additionally, the company introduces Media Intelligence, enabling users to find relevant fragments in large amounts of footage more quickly.

AI Accelerates Editing Processes

Generative Extend is based on the Firefly Video Model. The feature can automatically fill in missing images and audio by extending clips. This helps editors improve transitions or hold scenes longer without additional material. The feature also works with vertical video and supports 4K resolution. Since the beta version in October 2024, Generative Extend has been used to supplement B-rolls and seamlessly extend ambient audio, among other things.

Media Intelligence automatically recognizes the content of video fragments. This allows editors to find specific scenes more quickly, based on visual characteristics or metadata such as camera type or recording date. Premiere Pro also gets automatic subtitle translation in 27 languages. This simplifies the distribution of videos to an international audience. Furthermore, the software now includes new color management that automatically converts log footage to HDR or SDR, regardless of the camera source.

After Effects and Frame.io

In After Effects, Adobe improves the performance of the preview display. New 3D tools are also added, including support for HDR monitoring. This should accelerate the creation of visual effects and motion graphics.

Collaboration platform Frame.io gets expansions for storage, transcription, and document management in version 4. Teams can manage scripts, raw footage, and other media files in one place. For large enterprises, there’s also a beta version of Access Groups, allowing administrators to set user rights more quickly.

Adobe’s latest updates are available immediately. Premiere Pro users get temporary free access to Generative Extend.
