A patch is being rolled out before the end of this month for unexpected reboots of Palo Alto Networks’ firewalls.
Multiple customers have reported that Palo Alto Networks’ firewalls fail and reboot at random times.
The problems occur with versions PAN-OS 11.1.4-h7/h9, raising security concerns for users. Palo Alto Networks has developed a fix, but it is currently available only as a limited release.
“Three of our eight firewalls rebooted unexpectedly,” reports one user. This kind of failure can be wrongly interpreted as a security breach or hardware failure.”
Palo Alto Networks confirmed that the problem is caused by specific network traffic and released a hotfix on Jan. 31 for customers who needed an urgent fix. Wide rollout is scheduled for Feb. 20.
The problems at Palo Alto are not new, and are piling up more and more. Previously, thousands of firewalls were abused in cyber attacks. Devices from the company were also involved in brute-force attacks involving 2.8 million IP addresses.
